Job Summary: The Behavioral Care Assistant provides basic direct/indi! rect, age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient care under the direct supervision of the RN. Assists patients with hygiene and dressing needs; changes linens; positions and transfers patients, e.g., in and out of bed, chair, commode, toileting; ensures privacy/modesty of patients. Performs designated procedures, e.g., urine/stool specimen collection, ambulation, vital signs, intake/output. Provides for patient safety: recognizes and reports behavioral changes, accurately completes safety rounds as assigned, performs routine checks for environmental safety. Follows guidelines for patients on 1:1 precautions. Assists with patient admission, transfer, and discharge procedures; orients patients to the environment. Prepares patients for meals and snacks; assists with feeding patients as needed. Performs duties within scope of practice and in accordance with policies, procedures, and techniques; seeks information/clarification when necessary. Performs other duties as n! eeded. Job Specifications: High School graduate or GED require! d. CPR/BLS required. Completion of a MAB (Managing Assaultive Behavior) course required within 90 days of hire. Successful completion of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program or completion of School of Nursing Fundamentals preferred. Minimum six months experience as a nursing assistant experience preferred. Minimum one year of experience in a hospital and/or acute psychiatric setting preferred. Good hand/eye coordination to assist with ADLs. Ability to speak clearly in person and over the phone; ability to write clearly and concisely; ability to listen well and interact appropriately with patients, other employees and outside agencies; ability to input data into computer; good hand-eye coordination. Ability to establish effective relationships with patients, patientsâ families, co-workers, supervisors, medical staff and outside agencies; maintains calm demeanor in crisis situations; communicates clearly and effectively. Ability to maintain confidentiality.! Ability to assess patientsâ conditions, interpret care plan, comprehend appropriate interventions, evaluate patient response to care, teach patients and families; requires higher level mental faculties accompanied by short and long-term memory. Ability to concentrate on several assignments simultaneously; ability to organize and prioritize; ability to work with limited supervision; ability to execute duties in an efficient manner with attention to detail; ability to receive and accurately carry out instructions. **If in a recovery program, at least two years of sobriety is required. **
