Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation (SPMF), part of the Sutter Health networ! k, provides primary, specialty and complex medical care throughout San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma and Lake and Del Norte counties, as well as locations in Nevada.
Our 260 + physicians are dedicated to providing excellent patient care, combining the latest in medical knowledge and technology with a personal touch. SPMF provides patient care through its affiliation with three medical groups, Physicians Foundation Medical Associates (PFMA) in San Francisco, Marin Headlands Medical Group (MHMG) in Marin and Sutter Medical Group of the Redwoods (SMGR) in Sonoma and Lake counties.
In 2013 Sutter Pacific physicians and staff delivered outpatient care at 65 care centers throughout Northern California and Nevada.
Primary Purpose
The Medical Assistant (MA) assists physicians and other members of the healthcare team in clinic offices by performing a variety of back office, patient-related tasks and ensuring smooth patient and work flow within the depa! rtment.
The incumbent for this position will work wit! h the physician to provide medical care to patients, of various ages, according to the policy of the individual practice and in accordance with nursing professional standards and medical foundation policies and procedures. Clinical duties may include: taking medical histories, recording vital signs and current medications, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the physician during the examination. Provide patients with information regarding medication use and special diets; communicate and document prescription refills as directed to the appropriate pharmacy.
Knowledge of: Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of what constitutes a medical emergency requiring a physician or licensed nurse's attention. Knowledge of scope of practice of a Medical Assistant for an outpatient practice. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of computers and their applications.
Ability to: The qualified candidate must also possess basic data entry/computer skills and the ability to operate other office equipment as required (ie. fax, copier, telephone, etc.). The qualified candidate must also demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with patients, professional staff, and others using positive communication strategies and guest relation skills; possess ability to accept work direction form multiple sources, prioritize tasks, and remain adaptable to changes in work environment; have demonstrated ability to accurately receive and relay information over the telephone and in person; has experience handling various confidential documents and reports. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
Qualifications
Experience and Education
: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities of front and back office would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the ! knowledge and abilities would be: Experience - Previous experience as a! medical assistant in a physician office, hospital or similar experience preferred. Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required; Vocational or academic training to receive either Certified or Registered Medical Assistant designation is required.
In order to meet the qualifications of a Medical Assistant with Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation, you will be required to complete and pass a Medical Assistant Competency Exam.
Attendees of the Pre-Employment Exam are required to hold:

a Current (up to date as of the testing date) copy of their BLS/CPR certification for Healthcare Providers

a Current copy of their MA Certification (Diploma)
