Come join our Nursing Team on the Yreka Campus at our new state of the art facilities. We are currently recruiting for a full-time tenure track positions for Fall 2013. The assignment could include a mixture of day and evening activities at the Yreka campus, clinical sites in the Redding area, and other off campus sites. Schedule includes 2 clinical days in Redding, and remainder in Yreka. The regular academic year is 175 days.
Summary of D! uties
Duties related to ADN NURSING INSTRUCTOR: Responsible for teaching theory and clinical in the LVN to RN Step Up program; possess familiarity of Board of Vocational Nursing and Board of Registered Nursing policies to maintain program approval and standards. Implement and maintain course and clinical schedules, participation in curriculum review, curriculum revision, faculty meetings, program review, and coordination of duties with part-time faculty and support staff.
Classroom duties: Provide instruction that includes lecture, laboratory, technology, simulation, and clinical in the discipline in accordance with established College of the Siskiyous approved curriculum and course outlines; inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance and participation requirements for courses taught; effectively teach and communicate with students of diverse backgrounds.
Interaction with students outside of class: Advise students on academic and career matters; assist i! n outreach and articulation with high schools, four-year colleges and universities; post and maintain adequate and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.
Out-of-class duties: Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submit them according to published guidelines; prepare instructional materials; prepare and grade class assignments and evaluations according to course syllabus.
Professional and curriculum development: Remain current in field; maintain and evaluate curriculum in collaboration with program director, assistant director, and other faculty including assessment of student learning outcomes; utilize approved textbooks or submit recommendation for changes to director and participate in textbook choices in collaboration with program faculty; evaluate course materials; interact with faculty and staff in other areas of instruction, participate in the development of instructional methods, techno! logy and materials; work with peers in higher education, and where appr! opriate, business and industry to maintain currency of instructional programs.
Interaction with colleagues: Participate in college governance by serving on college committees; participate in professional development, including flex obligations; assist with student and other educational activities in accordance with college policies; establish and maintain effective work relationships.
Education/Experience
Minimum Qualifications
1. Masterâs degree from a regionally accredited college or university in nursing, OR Bachelorâs in nursing AND Masterâs in health education or health science OR the equivalent in accordance with statewide minimum qualifications OR the minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing for approval as Instructor, whichever is higher.

2. Valid active California License as a Registered Nurse, or be able to obtain a California Registered Nursing License.
3. Two yearâs experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care in an acute care setting.
4. At least one yearâs previous experience teaching in a prelicensure nursing program or a clinical teaching course.
5. Recent clinical experience in high acuity medical-surgical nursing and/or maternal/child specialty areas.
6. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
7. Employment contingent upon BRN approval as an instructor.
Desired Qualifications
- Willingness to remediate in specific content areas as needed.
- Willingness to function as content expert when qualified according to BRN regulations.
- Willingness to complete coursewor! k and/or gain experience necessary to acquire BRN approval as assistant! director.
- Commitment to community college education as demonstrated in personal and/or professional experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, other on-campus groups, off-campus community groups and
- Evidence of a commitment to remaining current in the discipline as demonstrated by knowledge of Joint Commission requirements, IOM recommendations and QSEN, continuous quality improvement, core measures, and other content pertinent to acute care nursing (BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP).
- Strong academic preparation as evidenced by undergraduate and graduate level coursework.
- Ability to communicate clearly with students and staff, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to use PowerPoint, excel, word, simulation and other technology including videoconferencing.
Positions will begin fall semester 2013.
Salary and Benefits
!
- The starting salary for the positions is $49,246 to $66,410 based on a 175-day calendar. Starting placement on the District salary schedule is based upon years of experience and number units completed beyond the Masters degree. New academic employees may receive credit for no more than 5 years of job-related experience.
- Faculty members with an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution receive an additional $1,800 annual stipend.
- Excellent benefit package including medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents. Employees contribute a percentage of their salary toward the Medical Benefits Program.
- Eligible for STRS (State Teacherâs Retirement System). District contributes on behalf of the employee.

Selection Process
After the preliminary screening, selected candidates will be invited to the campus for an initial interview with the Search Committee. At the discretion of the District, video-conference interviews (in lieu of an in-person initial interview) may be offered. A teaching demonstration will be part of the interview process. Candidates to be interviewed will be selected from applicants who most closely meet the minimum and! desired qualifications listed in the brochure. Meeting the minimum qua! lifications does not guarantee an interview. The Search Committee will then recommend a slate of finalists to the Superintendent/President for a final interview.

The College
COS is a major influence in the area and employs a faculty and staff of approximately 300, making it the third largest employer in the county. The college serves about 4,500 full and part-time students through comprehensive ! transfer courses, employment-oriented programs, life-long learning oppo! rtunities, and excellent student services.
Established in 1993, the Yreka Campus is located in the Siskiyou county seat and is also located just off Interstate 5. The campus has an extensive night course program to serve working adults. The campus has five classroom buildings to serve students. The new Rural Health Science Institute (RHSI) houses the colleges nursing program to include the Registered Nursing (RN) Upgrade, Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN), and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) programs.
The RHSI is an $8.8 million building designed to take advantage of the latest e-learning technology, including state-of-the-art simulation and videoconferencing. The RHSI houses not only the Nursing Program, but has available space for the creation of several additional healthcare career programs and features cutting-edge medical training technology. In addition to offering expanded nursing and allied health programs through traditional community college cu! rriculum, COS leaders have been exploring ways to use the RHSI to stimulate economic development within Siskiyou County. The opening of the RHSI in 2009 added significant new technology to COS. In addition to expanding the number of classrooms that can be used for distance learning education, the facility has a six bed nursing simulation lab with video capture capability, and a 12 bed clinical lab.
The college is widely recognized for its excellent programs in the humanities, arts, sciences, technology, career/technical education, and athletics. Nursing, fire science technology, an EMT/paramedic program, and an environmental resources technology program are four outstanding career/technical education programs. The Yreka campus has general purpose classrooms, a computer lab, POST certified training simulation classrooms, a fully equipped weight training classroom, and our newest building, a 20,000 square foot, high tech Rural Health Science Institute.
