EMPLOYEE HEALTH NURSE I (RN) - EMPLOYEE HEALTH SERVICES

Description: Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is presently looking of EMPLOYEE HEALTH NURSE I (RN) - EMPLOYEE HEALTH SERVICES right now, this position will be settled in California. The Employee Health RN functions as an occupational health nurse for all employees of Hoag, by utilizing clinical expertise, decision making and independent judgem ent to assure compliance with regulatory requirements. This role can also include performing ergonomic evaluations and recommendations to avoid repetitive injuries. Workers Compensation Nurse Case Manager utilizes physical assessment skills to evaluate employees and volunteers who have had a work related injury/illness or exposure. This role requires a thorough knowledge of the California Workers’ Compensation Labor Code, reporting requirements, OSHA determination and use of judgement in the treatment, referral, authorization for certain tests/treatments and ongoing follow up care for a claim until closure. The Case Manager collaborates with the EHS Medical Director, Third Party Claims Administrator, treating providers, Human Resources and all department Directors. These positions require collaboration with co-workers and demonstrate a work-style reflecting the Mission, Vision and Values of the Human Resources Department as well as the Organization.

EMPLOYEE HEALT H RN I

  • Performs annual employee health assessments; review of annual health questionnaire, TB skin testing (TST), interpretation and vaccine updates. Provides education and resources; wellness programs, EAP, smoking cessation, onsite fitness program and coaching, etc.
  • Performs initial assessment for pre-placement screening including: TB screening, urine drug test, visual acuity, vital signs, review health history and communicable diseases, vaccine status and identifies potential physical limitations and/or health concerns. Collaborates with co-workers to determine if additional information or testing is needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of employee health information
  • Assists with interpretation and data entry for required medical surveillance screenings
  • Participates in annual flu vaccine program
  • Has a thorough understanding of the EHS software database and is able to retrieve information as needed.
  • Assume the role of triage RN on a rotating daily basis
  • Tailors communication style for the adolescent, adult and geriatric employee/volunteer by facing the person, making eye contact when speaking, giving instructions one at a time and verifies understanding. Performs clear verbal and written communication in a professional manner. Understands how to deal with all levels of employees. Treats others with respect and compassion.
  • Clinical Care : Ensure nursing care is delivered and the department is maintained in accordance with professional regulatory standards. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to the appropriate population as outlined in the job description and competencies
Education, Training and Experience

Required:
Employee Health Nurse I (RN): California Nursing license, graduate from an accredited nursing school. (2) years of experience in an acute hospital environment

Preferred:< br> Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN)

Employee Health Nurse I (RN): 1 year experience in hospital Employee Health or occupational health setting, knowledge of California Worker’s Compensation law and case management. Knowledge of ergonomics and infection control as it relates to hospital employees. Knowledge of California Labor Code, CAL-OSHA, OSHA Log.

Skills or Other Qualifications

Required:
Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task, organizational ability, safety measures, ability to follow instructions, maintains confidentiality, strong interpersonal skills. Basic computer skills knowledge of Microsoft Office, and Outlook. Must display a high level of customer service at all times. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other members of the EHS/HR team and willingness to assist all members of the team to accomplish the best employee experience.

Preferred:
Able to identify human behaviors which result in positive health outcomes. Bilingual in Spanish.

License and Certifications

Required:
Registered Nurse (RN) with current California license and current BLS certificate.

Preferred:
Employee Health Nurse I and II (RN): COHN-COHN-S certification
