The Opportunity
The CALS Office of Information Technology (CALS-OIT) acts as a strategic partner in the delivery and management of IT to support the college’s priorities. As a Programmer Analyst III on CALS OIT’s Business Intelligence and Technology Innovation team you will become a trusted resource for data analytics projects. You will actively engage with customers to understand and support their data-driven decision-making efforts. You will quickly gain understanding of enterprise data sources and exercise analytical rigor in order to build reports, dashboards, and ad hoc queries using a variety of data tools including Tableau, OBIEE/OAS. You will need to have a keen ability to present a comprehensive 'data story' to multiple levels of the organization.
As a data expert, you will provide reliable data across the CALS organization. You will perform analysis of data sources and data models in order to actively collaborate with team members to design, plan and implement code for repeatable integrations between a variety of data sources and administrative information systems.
What We Need
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree; more than 2 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to synthesize and document complex data and process flows.
- Analytical and reporting skills, which includes demonstrated experience with performance metrics, as well as generating data reports from complex applications.
- Data and functional analysis, design, development, validation, support and training for IT systems experience.
- Experience with relational databases, data warehouses, and sql query language.
- Superior communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, confidently and concisely in verbal and written formats with business and technical personnel across multiple levels of management.
- Demonstrated experience using reasoning and sound judgment to provide excellent customer service. Strong problem solving skills are essential.
- Ability to work on multiple projects involving various end users, and proactively communicate status updates.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work with campus colleagues and set priorities, and manage multiple demands in order to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or equivalent; 3+ year of experience or equivalent.
- Advanced knowledge of Business Intelligence applications including databases and warehouses, data visualization, and reporting tools including Tableau and OBIEE/OAS.
- A broad knowledge of administrative functions and systems at Cornell including a preference for experience with student data, PeopleSoft, and KFS.
- Experience working in a higher educational institution.

The position will allow for the flexibility to work remotely a minimum of three times per week at a location of employee’s choosing within the United States. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position.
