The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) is seeking to hire an experienced Licensed Vocational Nurse for our Primary & Ambulatory Care Clinics (West Los Angeles, Sepulveda & Downtown Los Angeles). He/she ensures that Veteran-centered health care is provided and delivered in a quality, timely, accessible and respectful manner, consistent with the mission, goals and objectives of the Veteran's Health Administration. He/she is responsible to the Clinic Nurse Manager. Assignment locations may be changed to either the West Los Angeles or Downtown Los Angeles clinics to meet the staffing needs of the organization.
This position is open to current VAGLAHS LVN employees only .
Monday-Friday (Day Shift)
KEY REQUIREMENTS
U.S. Citizenship
Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.
Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
Designated and/or Random Drug Testing may be required.
Background and/or Security Investigation required.
English Language Proficiency required.
DUTIES:
Duties include but are not limited to:
Delivers a broad range of vocational nursing care to a group of patients
Monitors patients for illness or incapacity
Evaluates and observes patients, identifying obvious and subtle deviations
Recognizes emergent situations and initiates appropriate interventions
Uses practical knowledge of human motivation behavior and reactions to situations
Acts as a patient advocate in facilitating patient care
Exercises self-direction in performing the most complex LVN assignments involving both standard and non-standard specialized activities
Participates in identifying, developing, and conducting self-reliance health related teaching programs for patients and families
Contributes to the interdisciplinary team in developing, implementing and evaluating patient treatment plans
Maintains and orders adequate supplies, drugs, and equipment necessary for clinic functions
Participates in clinic Quality Assurance activities
Assists in maintaining accurate clinic logs and statistics as required
Reviews patient records for preventive care, tracts preventive care and conducts patient education associated with chronic disease
Performs other duties as assigned depending on nursing care demands and/or needs
Performs blood draws, EKGs, medication administration and implementation of orders for patient care
Prepares rooms and patients for examinations and takes responsibility for coordinating smooth patient flow in the clinic area
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Graduate of a School of Practical or Vocational Nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross or Military Training Network
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Basic computer literacy proficiency with the use of Microsoft Office programs or comparable word processing, spreadsheet and graphic software and the ability to learn new programs specific to the VA
At least 6 months of successful clinical nursing practice as a LVN/LPN.
IV Certification and Phlebotomy experience preferred.
Must be a current VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare Employee.
