This position is a full-time counseling position to serve as a liason with Allied Health/Nursing reporting to the Student Services unit of the college and is part of the Student Services Division.
The assignment includes provision of the counseling services in any of the Student Services programs, including academic counseling, career center, adult re-entry, transfer center, international students and Student Success & Support Program (SSSP formerly known as Matriculation), to prospective students. The counselor is expected to fully participate in college governance, the activities of the unit, curriculum development and other activities appropriate to the role and responsibility of the position. Evening hours will be required and some Saturdays may be included in the assignment.

Example! s of Duties:
Conduct educational, career and personal ! counseling for a diversified community college population including advisement and counseling for students in the Allied Health and Nursing programs.
Organize and conduct Allied Health/Nursing program workshops and orientations.
Develop counseling advisement materials for Allied Health programs.
Advise students who have completed nursing education outside the United States.
Develop follow-up procedures for Allied Health/Nursing students which monitor the progress of student persistence with their Student Educational Plans.
Serve as a liaison between Student Services and the Allied Health Division.
Provide counseling and other related services to students including but not limited to:
Development of individual educational plans;
Recruitment and outreach activities for feeder high schools and community agencies;
Provide instruction for college orientation and other student development courses;
Development and provision of workshops and/or group counseling for students regarding college orientation, transfer, academic advisement, majors, career planning, study skills and other counseling issues;
Registration, orientation, and advisement services;
Follow-up counseling for targeted student populations;
Provide interpretation of assessment instruments to students.
Serve as a representative of Student Services on various college-wide committees.
Participate in all full-time faculty responsibilities including faculty meetings, committee assignments, assessment of Student Learning Outcomes and student activities.
Perform other counseling related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masterâs in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, OR equivalent. (Note: A lic! ense as a marriage, family and child counselor is an alternative qualif! ication for the discipline, pursuant to Title 5, Section 53410.1)
Desirable Qualifications
Two years of community college or university counseling experience with Allied Health/Nursing programs.
One year of career counseling experience.
National certification by the National Career Development Association as Master Career Counselor or a Graduate certificate for Career Guidance Specialist or a Masters in Counseling with a Career Counselor emphasis.
Demonstrated working knowledge of career assessment instruments such as the MBTI, Holland-based instruments, and other career assessments.
Knowledge of computer software tools to facilitate services offered in counseling programs.
Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California community colleges.
Knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs and diversity of a multicultural student and community population.
Training and experience in group couns! eling techniques.

Salary
Starting salary is from $54,108 to $71,688 per year depending upon education and experience. Step placement within the appropriate column is determined by Article VIII of the Collective Bargaining agreement. Fringe benefits, which are subject to change pursuant to negotiations under Section 3500 of the California Government Code, are presently provided and include family and domestic partner medical and dental, two-party vision plan, and employee life insurance.
Selection Process

Each interview will include a teaching demonstration on an assign! ed topic. The College President will make the final recommendation to t! he Governing Board of Glendale Community College.
