Position Summary:
Ascend Learning is looking for a dynamic leader to join our team as a Release manager. As a leader in our Walnut Creek location, the release manager is responsible for coordinating the delivery of project deliverables, from Initiation to Launch, of products within a variety of frameworks, from agile to water! fall and a hybrid of both. In the agile framework, the role is! responsible for delivery of agile-based deliverables for projects and leading the development project team to implement iterative releases driven by the program roadmap and sprint plans. In the waterfall or hybrid framework, the role is responsible for driving all aspects of the project, to include scope, schedule, and budget. In all frameworks, this role will facilitate internal/external communication between the Technology & Operations team and all stakeholders as well as ensure the teams adhere to the selected methodologies and processes.
Required Skills
Capable of working with team members in a virtual setting across multiple geographies.
Organize regular communication within project team and updates to stakeholders and Senior Leadership Team. If the project is using agile methodology, organize and facilitate sprint and/or release planning, daily stand-up meetings, reviews, retrospectives, demos and other Scrum-related meetings as needed.
Participate in company meetings to facilitate consistent practices across the entire organization.
During Initiation, work with the project team to define project methodology (agile, waterfall, hybrid).
During Planning, tailor project approach and expected deliverables to the chosen methodology.
Maintain transparency into the teams. Communicate project risks early and often to all stakeholders. For agile projects, work through product and sprint backlogs, burn-down charts, and other required communications. Track and communicate team velocity and sprint/release progress.
Build and maintain strong business acumen, with a deep understanding of business drivers.
Coordinate and partner with the Technology Services group to plan and implement hardware and software solutions for projects or incidents, while providing seamless service to customers.
Partner with the business unit to meet organizational goals, and provides ! financial progress reporting to ensure maximum ROI.
Identify a! nd remove impediments, prevent distractions that interfere with the ability of the team to deliver the goal.
Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution; empower the teams to self-organize; improve the productivity of the teams in any way possible. Engage stakeholders in critical discussions.
Contribute to development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives and process improvement programs.
For agile projects, ensure the team strives to make sure each sprint is potentially shippable.
If agile methodology is used, assist with product backlog maintenance, story prioritization, and resolution of defects.
If agile methodology is used, support the scrum team, specifically:
Work with team to define what is meant by the concept *done* and facilitate clarity with respect to the Sprint goal.
Help team members to understand their roles in the planning and estimating process.
Guide the team in t! he resolution of issues and/or obstacles. Escalate as appropriate obstacles that cannot be promptly resolved.
Guide the team to improve productivity in any way possible.
Improve the lives of the development team by fostering creativity and empowerment.
Serve as a mentor in providing training and guidance to other Scrum participants.
Required Experience
Preference given to candidates that have held a lead position with in release or project management
At least 3 years of project and product experience in web-based software
Strong understanding of common project management methodologies and concepts.
Strong understanding of Scrum and Agile methodologies and concepts
Strong understanding of the Web Development Life Cycle in an Agile environment
Demonstrable experience leading multiple software development teams using Scrum
Certification â"Certified Scrum Master, Project Manageme! nt Professional (PMP)certification
