The ED Registered Staff Nurse provides quality nursing care to all patients in accordance with the California Nurse Practice Act, uti! lizes nursing process, according to evidenced based outcomes to meet patient care needs. The patient population served is the infant to the geriatric patient population and includes a broad scope of emergency nursing diagnoses. The primary responsibility of the nursing staff is to provide direct patient care and to collaborate with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. In addition, the registered nurse may care for patients requiring the following interventions: Cardiac and ST Segment monitoring, Cardioversion, Defibrillation, Central Venous Catheter, Chest Drainage, Critical Medications, Emergency Protocol/ACLS, Intravenous Therapy, Restraint Management/Assaultive Behavior, Ventilator Management, Conscious Sedation, 12-lead EKG, Ketamine, Transcutaneous/Transvenous Pacemaker, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Phlebotomy, Rapid Sequence Intubations, Accucheck, Point of Care Cardiac Enzymes and T! racheostomy Care.
Staff Nurses with advanced competencies ! include Triage and Mobile Intensive Care. Patients cared for may also include other medical, psychiatric and surgical diagnosis.
The ED Registered Nurse is responsible for maintaining a safe patient care environment. The ED Registered Nurse utilizing security and police department when necessary will intervene when patients or family members become verbally or physically aggressive. Demonstrates leadership skills by directing personnel and establishing collegial relationships with others. Demonstrates competence and sensitivity in caring for multicultural patient/families by adapting the Plan of Care based on cultural needs identified. Follows evidence based clinical standards when formulating the patient Plan of Care/problem list. Demonstrates ability to work in a multicultural team environment and is respectful of the cultural diversity of the workforce and the patients we serve. Demonstrates ability to recognize the red flags of abuse for child, elder, dependent adul! t and spousal abuse.
Projects an image or professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. Supports the mission of the Patient care Services Division. Participates in the continuous quality improvement process. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
