Under general supervision of the Service Line Manager and/or licensed designee, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides clinical and a! dministrative support to nurses, physicians and allied health professionals (Clinicians) working in the hospital licensed clinics.

Functions may include patient interview, data collection, documentation in the medical record, exam room set-up, cleaning and preparation, ordering/stocking of medical supplies, general administrative support, and other duties as assigned.

The CMA functions within his/her scope of education/certification not to exceed what is permitted by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center policies, procedures and guidelines. The CMA functions within his/her scope of education/certification not to exceed those approved by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center policies, procedures and guidelines and department practice. Approved duties/tasks are defined in Attachment I of this job description. Prepares patient medical records, films and test results prior visit to ensure paper and/or EMR chart is ready for the licensed clinician. Follows hospital policy for the ! use of two patient identifiers. Greets and escorts patients. C! ommunicates / interacts with patients using AIDET and Improving Service Delivery standards to maximize patient satisfaction with their experience. Patient Intake: Interviews established patients to facilitate data collection prior to patients being seen by clinician, as required by clinic, may measure vital signs, pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, height and weight, pulse oximetry, and record information related to the chief complaint/reason for visit and other required information in the patient medical record. Immediately reports all out of range and abnormal data to a licensed clinician, using approved parameters, completes documentation and fields in EMR templates as defined by program workflows and applicable policy, and at conclusion of intake, completes SBAR handoff to the clinician scheduled to see the patient and documents the SBAR.

Educational Requirements:

  • Graduate of a Medical Assisting program accredited by the Commission on ! Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
  • Certified by the Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
  • One year of previous medical office or clinic experience.
  • Successfully meets or exceeds CSMC competency testing requirements for CMAs. (To be developed)
  • Computer Skills: Demonstrates an understanding of technical knowledge in the effective use of computer support programs and other aids for productivity.
License/Certification/Registration Requirements:
Certified by the Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • One year of previous medical office or clinic experience
  • Basic Life Support
Experience:
One year of previous medical office or clinic experience.

Physical Demands:
  • Carrying, hearing/listening, lifting (up to 25lbs), Man! ual Dexterity, pulling/Pushing, Seeing, Sitting, Speaking, Squatting, K! neeling, Standing and Walking.
