The Research Study Coordinator will independently coordinate research studies involving human subjects and translational research. The research studies involve the us! e of cutting edge technologies in medical practice including mobile and genomic technologies. The Coordinator will initiate, implement and manage clinical trials and translational research studies, with an emphasis on HIV, TB, Salmonella, and other enteric infectious; ensuring compliance with goals and objectives of research protocols and with state and federal regulatory guidelines. Duties will include but are not limited to: recruiting subjects; screening for eligibility; monitoring with medical staff and timely reporting of adverse events; toxicities and protocol deviations; scheduling subjectsâ visits; coordinating clinical, laboratory and data activities; processing and submitting laboratory specimens; abstraction of data for clinical medical records and enter into database, interpreting research protocols to understand data extraction; maintaining accurate and complete clinical research files and patient medical charts. In collaboration with the Health & Human Servi! ces Agency (HHSA), UCSD and senior study nurses and coordinato! rs is responsible for coordinating all studies and will act as a liaison between principal investigators and HHSA. Obtain and arrange for transfer of specimens for translational research analysis from HHSA, UCSD and other medical centers and conduct retrospective extraction of clinical data from Public Health and other medical records. Manage database of collated pathology specimens, bacterial DNA, and their genomic analysis.
Must be willing to work with human biological samples including blood, urine, saliva, semen, sputum that may be potentially infectious. Must be willing to work with patients with HIV, TB, Salmonella, and other enteric infectious diseases.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be proficient in Spanish (ability to conduct interviews with Spanish only speaking patients).
Demonstrated experience administering study related questionnaires and assessments to a Spanish speaking population.
Theoretical knowledge in a biological life ! science or related discipline, including strong biology background combined with demonstrated knowledge of microbiology and genomics or equivalent education and experience.
Demonstrated experience in the clinical research setting including research with HHSA particularly in the area of tuberculosis control.
Proven ability to understand and interpret complex research protocols in order to screen patients for eligibility, initiate study plan, collect data, evaluated for adverse events and protocol deviations.
Previous experience in interpreting medical charts and extracting accurate data from medical records.
Demonstrated ability to accurately collect, record, transcribe and synthesize clinical data while paying conscientious attention to details. Experience completing clinical trial forms via hard copy and/or online.
Demonstrated experience working in the area of global HIV/AIDs.
Computer experience including Microsoft Of! fice, database management and email skills.
Demonstrated exper! ience in grant writing within the academic, non-profit or public health setting.
