The Advanced Practice Nurse provides holistic care in the area of physical examinations, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of health related problems within the framework! of authorized policies and protocols providing medical care to students at the Claremont University Consortium Student Health Services.This position reports to the Director.Essential functions: 1. Clinical Responsibilities (Direct Patient Care) - 90%Perform complete physical examinations (pre-matriculation, study abroad, employment, and sports participation) including taking medical history using the clinical techniques of observation, percussion, palpation, and auscultationFollow protocols, diagnoses common illnesses and injuries using the above noted techniques with the ability to distinguish between normal, normal variance, and abnormal findings based upon evaluation of the patient’s medical history and physical examinationSelect and request laboratory tests, x-rays, and diagnostic tests, interpreting test results together with a patient’s history and physical to assess a patient’s needs and problemsIs responsible for primary care of acute and sub-acute, chronic a! nd episodic conditions, illnesses, and injuries; assumes ongoi! ng responsibility for a patient from discovery of the disorder to recovery under the supervision of a physician or specific protocolEstablish and document the health care plan maintaining clear and accurate documentation of the problem, plan, outcome, and evaluation processPerform women’s health examinations including screening for abnormalities, contraceptive methods, pregnancy testing, and STI evaluation with referral to community specialists if neededPerform suturing and special procedures after demonstrating appropriate trainingCollaborate and consult with physicians for more complicated health problemsPrescribe medication and contraceptive methods in accordance with prescriptive authority according to the State of California Nurse Practice ActProvide immunization programs for the prevention and control of communicable diseasesCollaborate with other health disciplines in providing care and treatment (i.e. physical therapy, athletic trainers, inhalation therapy, occupa! tional therapy)Work in conjunction with Monsour Counseling and Psychological Services in management of students with mental health issuesWork in conjunction with Health Education Outreach by providing information on health related issuesProvides on-call phone services for students 24 hours a day/7days a week per on-call rotation schedule (approximately 5-7 weeks per year) documenting all concerns, symptoms, telephone advice, and disposition in patients’ charts 2. Clinical Responsibilities (Administrative Duties) - 10%Provide consultative services on health related issues to other campus programsReview and update patient educational materialsParticipate in campus outreach programs as requestedParticipate in Quality Assurance/Improvement programs for Student Health ServicesServe as liaison with student residential life departments, other community health care providers, and outside agenciesParticipate in professional development opportunities and in-service trainingAttend w! eekly staff meetings
