GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Provides professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion including handl! ing and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Occasional evening and weekend work. Work may be stressful at times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

1. Performs general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.

2. Evaluates patient care needs. Suggests solutions to patient care crisis problems and complaints.

3. Participates in nursing care essential to the assessment, promotion, maintenance, and restor! ation of patient’s health and wellness.

4. Prepares! equipment and aids physician during procedures, treatment, examination, and testing of patients.

5. Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. Dispenses medication as directed.

6. Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriate information. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests. Maintains timely fl ow of patients.

7. Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.

8. Maintains and reviews patient records, and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results.

9. Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness.

10. Identifies, studies and recommends solutions to nursing service problems.

11. Gives guidance and counsel to other clinic staff and may be asked to act as ! team leader and coordinate nursing care for

12. Assists with in service education and patient education

13. Must thoroughly understand and follow established policy and procedure under minimal supervision as well as make decisions within established clinical nursing standards.

14. Coordinates nursing services with other clinic departments and hospital departments

15. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.

16. Participates in department quality improvement, clinic safety, infection control and hazardous materials programs and activities.

17. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.

18. Handles confidential matters concerning clinic policies and practices in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

19. Performs related work as required.

Knowledge! , Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and appl! y guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Two years of professional nursing experience in a clinic setting and oncology certification preferred. Possession of a California State Registered Nurse license. CPR certification and computer proficiency required.
